Avast is one of the biggest names in the cybersecurity field. It is well-known for its outstanding malware detection, web security and other security features, such as a boot-time scanner and virtual desktop. It is also compatible with many devices, and includes an absolutely free VPN.
It is available in three different plan types namely Protection, Privacy and Performance – depending on the number of devices you need to protect. In addition to PCs, it is installed on Mac and Android devices.
Avast detected every malware that was found on the systems we test. This is a remarkable feat given that the software is able to detect more than 1.5 billion threats every month.
The software’s fast boot-time scanning is a different feature. It scans your system for potentially dangerous files prior to when Windows loads. It took me less than an hour to run the entire scan on a PC that was running Windows 10.
Avast also offers a range of other security tools aimed at securing data. Its Sensitive Document Shield can detect sensitive documents, such as tickets invoices, and resumes. It did not find any sensitive files on the computer I tested it on, however.
Avast’s email guardian can also check your account for suspicious attachments or phishing links. It also provides a feature known as Bank Mode that provides a virtual desktop that is protected from keystroke screen capture attempts, loggers and other malicious applications. Avast has a solid privacy policy. The company states that it will only collect data necessary for security. The company’s analytics business Jumpshot sells information only after it’s been de-identified.
